Resting

Zainab Yameenah Abdullateef was born on the evening of Thursday, January 4, 1990 at Beth Isreal Hospital in Newark, New Jersey.   On the evening of Friday, April 12, 2013 at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey, while surrounded by family, she transitioned from this earth to find her place in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ.  She is the daughter of Sumiyyah and Luqman Abdullateef.

Zainab met her siblings in East Orange, NJ where she lived the first few years of her life. She received most of her education through the Montclair school system but completed her senior year of high school in Bloomfield, NJ.  Shortly after, she realized that, similar to her older siblings, she had a desire to help people for a living.  It was no surprise when she enrolled in courses to become a medical assistant through Star Career Academy.  At the time of her passing she was attempting to start an externship working as an assistant to one of her treating doctors, which would have satisfied her requirements to complete the program.  She also worked as a waitress at Macaroni Grill and IHOP and cashier at Babies R Us.  On her own time she was a superb personal hair stylist, practicing on herself, family, and close friends.

Zainab loved to dance and enjoyed music, especially gospel, hip hop and R & B.  She also loved to get out and go places, whether it was to shop with family or friends or just relax and enjoy the day at the beach.  She was the kind of person that easily brought a group of people together.  When it came to her brothers and sisters, it was either they all roll out together or Zainab stays home.  From the time she was born, she bought laughter into so many lives.  Her “I’m gonna do what makes me happy” attitude made her very outgoing and affectionate to any and everyone she came into contact with.

Zainab struggled and suffered for quite some time, but her last days here on earth were, physically, the most difficult.  Through it all she remained steadfast and optimistic and hoped to be well again.  It’s very hard for anyone to see their loved one struggle with an illness and not be able to do anything to make them well and whole again.  However, Zainab continually reassured her family that her spiritual body was too strong to ever be broken.  In her words, "When the time comes I want all of my family and friends to know that I am ok with what is happening.  I'm comfortable and I'm in a happy place.  I don't want you all to cry and stress about it.  Just know that when you are laughing I'll be right beside you laughing too 'cuz you know I looove to laugh!"

Zainab was a lovely and vibrant daughter that was so full of energy.  She was taken away from us too early but the memories she left will live on in us forever.  Her family is so proud of her and thankful to have experienced the gift of her spirit.
